Spurs head coach Thomas Frank considers updating the goalkeeping position one of the priorities. Concerns are growing at the club over the future of current first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who could return to Italy and join Inter Milan at the end of the season.
As part of an extended search, Tottenham turned their attention to ter Stegen, seeing him as an experienced and high-class candidate. Barcelona are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the 33-year-old German, especially if the transfer would reduce the club’s wage bill.
This season, ter Stegen made his first appearance in Barcelona’s starting line-up in the Spanish Cup match against Guadalajara. He played just nine games last season due to a knee injury and missed the start of the current campaign after back surgery. Despite this, the German remains the captain of the Catalan team.
