A serious personnel problem is accumulating in the Verkhovna Rada due to the absence of elections during the war. Some people’s deputies cannot or do not want to continue working, but it is impossible to change them. This was stated by the head of the “Servant of the People” faction, David Arahamiya NV.
According to Arahamiya, the parliament has actually found itself at a dead end. Deputies elected in 2019 are exhausted by the long martial law, but remain in their positions because it is impossible to hold elections now.
“There are many people who cannot and do not want to continue working in the parliament. But they are indispensable because we cannot hold elections. It’s kind of a chicken and egg problem,” he said in an interview with NV.
The head of the faction admitted that there is no clear mechanism for updating the parliament in the current conditions. He also emphasized that the topic of the “parliamentary crisis” often becomes the object of political manipulation, although the main reason for the situation is people’s banal fatigue.
According to Arahamia, the only real option is to continue working until a peaceful settlement is possible. “The only scenario, as far as I’m concerned, is to tell them all, ‘Don’t whine, because the military has it much worse,'” he noted.
Arahamiya added that the parliament should hold out for some time until a “window of opportunity for peace” appears, which will allow a return to the normal political process, including elections.
