Ms. Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, Olga Stefanishyna, reported that the American senators submitted to the Senate of the States a bipartisan bill, which provides for sanctions for the purchase or facilitation of the import of oil and oil products from Russia.

Literally from Stefanishyna’s post: “U.S. Senators, Republicans D. McCormick and J. Husted, and Democrats E. Warren and K. Kuhns have submitted to the Senate the bipartisan bill “Decreasing Russian Oil Profits Act of 2025″, which provides for sanctions for the purchase or facilitation of the import of oil and oil products from Russia.”

Details: According to Stefanishyna, the authors of the draft law emphasized that the purchase of Russian oil “finances the war against Ukraine, and any countries, companies or financial intermediaries that facilitate such trade must understand the consequences, including the risk of losing access to the US financial system.”

“The draft law creates a legal basis for increasing sanctions pressure on the oil revenues of the Russian Federation. If passed, the US President will be obliged within 90 days to apply sanctions to persons involved in the import of Russian oil. The list will be formed by the Minister of Finance after consultations with the Secretary of State,” added Stefanishyna.

We will remind: Russian oil prices have hit their lowest level since the start of Russia’s major war against Ukraine, as sanctions tighten the discounts the country’s oil industry is forced to offer and benchmark oil futures fall.

High Representative of the EU for foreign and security policy Kaya Kallas said that the European Union is not currently considering the possibility of lifting sanctions on the Russian Federation and, on the contrary, considers it necessary to increase the pressure on it.

In November, US President Donald Trump, answering questions on the podcast of Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, said that sanctions against Russian oil would remain in place during the discussion of the American “peace plan”.
