US President Donald Trump expressed opinion about the importance of quickly concluding a peace agreement in Ukraine during a recent briefing.
He emphasized that, according to his information, many Ukrainians want to end the conflict, noting that 82% of the population supports the conclusion of an agreement with Russia.
Trump called on the Ukrainian leadership to be realistic in their aspirations, as the war causes great damage to society and emphasized the need for political solutions to end hostilities.
Against the background of his statements, some European leaders also expressed readiness for negotiations with Ukraine and Washington, seeking to find a joint solution to stabilize the situation.
Trump noted that hostilities have seriously complicated the organization of future elections in Ukraine, so it is important to ensure conditions for free and safe voting.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in turn, called on people’s deputies to act under martial law and confirmed that he had discussed these issues with parliamentarians. He assured that he will not allow speculation surrounding the elections, which makes Trump’s statements even more relevant for the future of Ukraine.
To hold free and fair elections in Ukraine necessary at least six months of preparation. Due to almost a million soldiers at the front and an incomplete electoral network, it is impossible to organize elections earlier.
