“They have a symbiotic friendship; they support each other, help each other, for example, circumvent sanctions. Our task is not to separate them or to save Lukashenka from Putin. Our task is to save our country, Belarus, both from Lukashenka and from Putin,” she added.
According to the leader of the Belarusian opposition, the US decision to ease some sanctions against Belarus does not mean that they are rewarding the Lukashenko regime.
“They (the Americans. – Ed.) understand which sanctions can be lifted and which cannot, and their decisions are quite wise. Our task is to make sure that President Trump has a gingerbread man, and he is using a gingerbread man now, but he also has a whip if the Belarusian regime does not fulfill … the agreement,” Tykhanovskaya added.
Donald Trump’s administration is trying to establish contact with the regime in Minsk, as evidenced by the release of 52 Belarusian political prisoners.
As part of these efforts, the US lifted sanctions on the Belarusian state airline Belavia.
Also on Tuesday, November 4, the US Treasury Department eased some sanctions against Belarus, lifting measures against the national airline and allowing operations related to Lukashenka’s plane.
