Despite his star status, the 22-year-old Wirtz has faced pressure from German media and pundits who have questioned his effectiveness in the national team. Voltemade, who knows Florian well from joint appearances for the youth national teams, considers such assessments to be meaningless.
“Criticism of Florian is simply absurd,” said Voltemade in an interview. “We are talking about a top-class player. People sometimes forget too quickly what he did for the team before, as soon as one less bright match happens,” Nick emphasized.
Also, Voltemade commented on Wirtz’s club career in England. In his opinion, the adaptation of the playmaker in Liverpool is only a matter of time, and the physical complexity of the Premier League will not be an obstacle for the technical German.
“I have no doubt that he will flourish in England. His game intelligence and technique will allow him to dominate any league in the world, including the Premier League. Florian is a player who makes a difference,” concluded Voltemade.
