– I would like to talk about arbitration. Representatives of SK Poltava, Patrick Van Leeuwen from Kryvbas, Srna, representatives of Dynamo, Ponomaryov from LNZ, coaching staff of Lviv Carpathians, Obolon, Polissia… Yes, all the clubs. All the clubs are dissatisfied with the referees. Yes?
I always wonder, the clubs pay for the work of referees and can never gather at the highest level. Club presidents and directors should meet and discuss these issues. Now, watching the referees, you can easily understand… How are they on VAR? One speaks, the other does not speak… One does not see, and the other cannot tell. It’s funny sometimes, you know!
– I have the feeling that with the advent of the VAR system, mistakes have become even more than there were without it. Is it specifically…
– Well, there are also people there, you see. They can also be wrong, but there are club representatives who can ask: “Why so?”. That was the situation in Poland, when the new president of the association came, gathered everyone and said: “We are working correctly, we are not working the way we worked before.” And against about 80 referees from all professional leagues in Poland and about 10 children’s coaches… Proceedings were opened against them! You understand, right? See what I mean? And that’s all. This is normal!
Referees can make a mistake, but if you sit under the VAR system, you watch and do not tell… Do you remember the moment when in the match Obolon – Shakhtar Monzul scored a “left” penalty. She didn’t see that the kick hit her buttock, and VAR… And VAR didn’t tell. How can you not see this? So far the presidents of the clubs… I know that the delegation of Zhytomyr Polissia has now gone to Germany. Butkevich initiated a working group to look at how German arbitration works – so that everything is independent. This is absolutely necessary.
So Shakhtar complained – now they judge normally, then they are silent. Dynamo… Well, it’s not normal when we talk about “big football”, where all clubs play for the result. I am sure that our referees know how to judge, but they need to be shown and talked to. Facts are needed. When there, Rizzoli says: “Minor violation of the rules in the penalty area…”. What does a minor violation mean? This is just some kind of circus! They make clowns out of us.
It is important for me that we: coaches, club presidents, who pay for it, we do nothing! I worked in Slovakia (with Tatran club, – ed.), there the referee gives an interview after the match – it’s normal. I remember we played a draw, where the referee awarded a penalty, but there was no penalty. He made a mistake in the media after the match.
Well why!? Well, that’s normal! The war continues… Well, it’s simple! The arbitrators themselves want everything to be normal and transparent. Moreover, Andriy Shevchenko said about this: “Transparency is needed at all levels!”. And where is the transparency? Where do they talk about it? They made a mistake on VAR… Do you remember when the ball crossed the front line in the match Metalist 1925 – Shakhtar… Someone didn’t say something on VAR… Well, you can’t do that. Moreover, the war continues. But even without war… We need to stabilize this moment!
It is necessary to gather: sum up, talk. I want to contact the UAF! The championship is over and we have to gather everyone: journalists, coaches, football players. Everyone needs to communicate, it is necessary to talk, and not everyone said something to himself and about himself! Now they judge well – well, it’s normal. Then it will be bad again – we will talk again.
It seems to me that such clubs as: Dynamo, Shakhtar, Polissya, LNZ, Karpaty… They should be the initiators of these meetings. It is these clubs that build the infrastructure. Yes? But Butkevich said that he did not think that there was so much dirt and problems in arbitration when he saw it. You see, a person invests money and wants to see normal refereeing. There can be a mistake – everyone makes mistakes, but then there should be an apology for those mistakes. About 46 cameras show the Champions League. You can look at any angle. I am “in favor” of the referee giving an interview immediately after the match, as football players do. And then they say: “How can I say? Well, wait, as coaches can, why should we do that. Well, not immediately. Go watch the video and tell me. Same? I think that journalists should also talk about it! Talk about it more.

But no. They all say that UEFA. This is how UEFA generally wants Russia to play on the international stage… Because Slovakia is the European Union. It’s normal for them. UEFA… Well, what’s to hide behind them. They still pay bonuses. We have a war – how many people are killed. Horror! And they give bonuses to orcs. Well, what about UEFA? Are they helping us!? You don’t need to help us, just don’t bother us. Do you remember how Zhvanetsky used to say: “To help you or not to interfere.”
I will repeat once again, everything should come from the presidents of the clubs. This is first of all. This question should be raised by people who invest. They should see what and how it is done. But… if the club is ranked high, they are judged well and they are happy there. Well… There were many mistakes in the matches of SC Poltava, Obolon. Dynamo did not award a “clean” penalty in the match against Shakhtar. This is a big problem, but it is very easy to solve! It is necessary to do as in Poland and work transparently. We do not understand how they judge how much they will earn. Well, it can’t be like that! How can this be?”, Kovalets summarized.
