“The ministry noted that Germany remains the largest donor to the fund, which has raised more than 1.3 billion euros since February 2022 to restore the energy infrastructure of Ukraine damaged by Russia”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
This funding complements the €60 million announced earlier this year, the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy said on December 4.
The funds will be directed to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine (UESF), to which other international donors have also contributed since 2022.
“Russia is systematically and deliberately attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in order to use winter as a weapon. Energy supply in Ukraine has long been a front line. It will determine how much this winter will affect people. Our additional 100 million euros to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine is a clear answer: we will not leave the Ukrainian people,” said German Economy Minister Kateryna Reiche.
The ministry noted that Germany remains the largest donor to the fund, which has raised more than 1.3 billion euros since February 2022 to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure damaged by Russia. Germany’s contribution, together with the amount announced today, will increase to 550 million euros by the end of 2025.
Since the beginning of autumn, the Russian military has intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure, which supplies people with gas during the heating season. As a result of the attacks, emergency power outages occur. In Ukraine, due to damage to energy facilities as a result of Russian shelling, hourly blackout schedules and capacity limitation schedules are used for industrial consumers and businesses.
The main complication after the massive shelling of the Russian Federation is the situation with the transmission of electricity between regions, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk said.
