Liverpool avoided another Premier League defeat with a draw against Sunderland in Round 14 thanks only to an own goal and a brilliant defensive performance by Federico Chiesa in stoppage time.

Arne Slott’s side once again had a lethargic game and conceded in the 67th minute – Talbi’s long-range shot ricocheting off van Dijk left Alisson with no chance. Before that, the visitors were close to a goal twice: Hume hit the crossbar, and Alderete hit the post.

Slott kept Salah on the bench but released him after the break in an attempt to revive the game. Liverpool created a minimum of opportunities and saved themselves only in the 81st minute – Wirtz’s shot was sent into his own goal by Mukiele, who deprived the German talent of his debut productive action in the EPL, but scored an own goal.

In the end, Sunderland could have snatched victory: Isidore broke free on his own and should have scored, but Federico Chiesa knocked the ball off the goal line with a fantastic tackle.
