Former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The ex-prime minister was found guilty on four counts, including treason committed under martial law, encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, and justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
According to the investigation, Azarov, hiding outside of Ukraine, actively cooperates with the Russian special services to carry out subversive activities in the interests of the Kremlin.
He regularly spreads anti-Ukrainian narratives on the airwaves of Russian propagandists, justifying Russia’s armed aggression, temporary occupation, and spreading fakes about the socio-political situation. Azarov uses his own channels in Telegram and YouTube, as well as personal pages in social networks, to spread fakes.
The SBU claims that his assistant – a former official of one of the district administrations of Kyiv – was in charge of administering the resources of the ex-prime minister and preparing provocative publications. She negotiated remotely with representatives of the Russian media about Azarov’s participation in the airwaves, agreeing on “theses” for speeches with another former colleague who left for Moscow and works for Azarov.
One of his assistants was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier, we wrote that the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (SAC) seized the assets of Vyacheslav Zanevskyi, who was the head of Viktor Yanukovych’s bodyguard, from state income.
A photo of Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, and the associate of the former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, who is under sanctions in the US, regional woman Hanna Herman, appeared on the social network. They met and greeted each other at the so-called Prayer Breakfast in Washington on the occasion of the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.
