Details: Mogherini, the chancellor of the College of Europe, Sannino and a College of Europe employee were detained on Tuesday in connection with an investigation into whether the 2021-22 public tender held by the European External Action Service (EEAS) to select a higher education institution to host the EU Diplomatic Academy was rigged in favor of the College of Europe.

“The charges relate to procurement fraud and corruption, conflict of interest and breach of professional secrecy. They were dismissed as they are not considered to be fugitives,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The charges have not been proven and Mogherini, Sannino and the other person detained are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
As reported, the Belgian police conducted searches on Tuesday in the diplomatic service of the European Union in Brussels, as well as in the College of Europe in Bruges and private houses as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of EU funds.
