The Verkhovna Rada decided not to introduce fixed-term contracts for teachers within the framework of changes to increase their salaries.
People’s deputy Roman Hryshchuk, a member of the committee on education, announced this.
Instead, they are considering an alternative — a single salary in the amount of three minimum salaries.
Previously, the parliament discussed the possibility of establishing fixed-term contracts and increasing the workload to 22 hours a week, but this initiative caused criticism from trade unions, who feared mass layoffs.
According to Hryshchuk, the idea of fixed-term contracts was withdrawn due to “huge opposition and mistrust due to the risks of abuse in the field.” So, for now, they are leaving the option of introducing a single position salary, which would amount to 25,941 hryvnias — three times more than the minimum salary.
This salary will replace the current tariff grid and the maximum position salary of 7,732 hryvnias.
We would like to remind you that the Cabinet of Ministers did not include in the 2026 budget proposals to raise teachers’ salaries, despite the support of the relevant amendments by the Verkhovna Rada.
Also, teachers should stop online lessons during an emergency.
