“The Red Bull pilot is ready to leave the sport if he doesn’t like the new rules”, — write: sport.ua
In 2026, the sport expects large-scale changes in both power plants and aerodynamics. Pilots have already expressed concern about exactly how they will have to drive the new cars – due to the significantly greater amount of energy that will have to be tactically distributed during the lap.
Experts note that the driver’s ability to intelligently manage energy saving, and not just rely on natural instincts, will be decisive.
Verstappen has been a long-time critic of the future rules, and has also voiced displeasure with the increase in the number of Grands Prix and the potential expansion of the sprint program.
The Dutchman admitted that his future in Formula 1 may depend precisely on the new regulations:
“My contract is valid until 2028, but everything will depend on the rules of 2026 – whether they will be pleasant and fun. If not, I see no point in staying.
I don’t care about seven titles. I know I have three more years to go after this season, in theory anything is possible, but that’s not what I need before the end of my career. I can leave the sport even tomorrow.”
Verstappen has repeatedly said that he has a desire to try himself in other racing series. This year he already won the Nordschleife race as part of the endurance crew.
He also emphasized that if he leaves, he does not plan to return:
“I have many other passions – other categories of racing, more time for my family, living on my own schedule. And in my head, if I close a section, it’s closed. I don’t see myself in a situation where I stopped and then came back. If I stop, then for real.”
