Ivan Stupak, a former employee of the SBU, said on the air of the Vechir.LIVE program on YouTube that the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be determined solely by the capabilities of the state.

According to him, maintaining an army of 800,000 soldiers is unrealistic for Ukraine in peacetime.

Stupak cited examples of European countries with much smaller armies: Germany has about 180,000 soldiers, Poland has about 200,000. He added that this scale of the army can only be possible if the Western partners agree to finance its maintenance, saying: “You provide us with security, and we are ready to pay for your army.”

In the edited version of the US peace plan, provisions on the “limitation” of the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the level of 600,000 people were removed. Instead, the document notes that the size of the army will “remain” at a certain level.
