Details: On November 27, 57 deputies supported the relevant decision.

The draft denunciation of the agreement with Russia on the creation and operation of cultural centers was developed at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after Russian drones violated the airspace of Moldova in February 2025.

The Russian cultural center started working in Chisinau back in 2009. At the same time, Moldova still has not opened a similar center in the Russian Federation.

The parliament also noted that the Russian cultural center is under the authority of the Russian Embassy and is financed by the Russian Cooperation Agency, which is under international sanctions.

“In the EU, Russian Cooperation is qualified as the main state body projecting the soft power of the Kremlin and its hybrid influence, including the promotion of the so-called concept of the Russian world,” the parliament added.

Also, the authors of the denunciation project emphasize that in the current geopolitical situation, “the agreement with the Russian Federation can be used to promote distorted narratives, and this threatens the information security of Moldova.”

    Prehistory:

    • There was talk of closing the “Russian House” in Chisinau in February 2025 after another incident involving the downing of Russian UAVs on the territory of Moldova, which attacked Ukrainian ports in the Odesa region.
    • After parliamentary elections and the formation of a new government at the beginning of November, Moldova took the next step to denounce the agreement with Russia on cultural centers, as a result of which “Russian House” will be closed in Chisinau.
