On November 27, the Polish ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, who was handed a note about the revocation of the permission to operate the consulate general in Irkutsk.

“The Russian side has decided to withdraw from December 30, 2025, the consent to the operation of the Consulate General of Poland in Irkutsk,” the statement reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that “the last of the previously existing Polish consular offices will be closed.”

What happened before:

  • The Polish Foreign Ministry previously announced that the Russian consulate in Gdansk will be closed until midnight on December 23. Consulate employees must leave the territory of Poland by the specified date.
  • The closure of the consulate in Gdańsk means that only Russian diplomats from the embassy in Warsaw will remain in Poland.
  • On November 18, during a speech in the Diet, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the investigation considers two Ukrainian citizens who cooperate with Russian special services to be the perpetrators of acts of sabotage on the Polish railway. They entered Poland from the territory of Belarus and managed to leave after sabotage.
  • The section of the Warsaw-Lublin railway, on which the sabotage was carried out, is of strategic importance for assistance to Ukraine.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the case that the Russian Federation deliberately recruits people with Ukrainian passports for such actions.
