According to the police representative, after the fire, three men were arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter – two directors and an engineering consultant of the construction company. At the press conference, the police accused them of “gross negligence.”
As of 8 a.m. (local time – ed.), at least 66 people have been hospitalized, the Hong Kong Hospital Administration told CNN, 17 of them are in critical condition, and 24 are in serious condition.
The publication adds that some of the eight buildings in the complex, which houses a large number of elderly people, are still burning. The fire is likely to be Hong Kong’s deadliest since World War II.
