On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the State Standard of Preschool Education.
This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, on his Facebook page.
“Today, at the government meeting, the State Standard for Preschool Education was approved. This decision is the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Preschool Education”. The document, developed by scientists and practitioners, defines the content of preschool education, forms a clear common framework under which preschool education centers will work, and clearly outlines what learning outcomes and key competencies each child should acquire at the stage of completing preschool education,” the minister wrote.
According to him, the standard will become the main reference point for developers of educational programs and clearly defines the target results for teachers.
It is based on the following principles:
- guarantee of academic, organizational and personnel autonomy of the institution;
- academic freedom of the teacher;
- the right to choose from a variety of educational programs;
- taking into account the capabilities and needs of each child during the implementation of the educational process.
The document will enter into force on September 1, 2027.
Lisovyi noted that the State Education Quality Service will conduct validation of the standard in preschool education institutions for six months to make sure that the expected results are confirmed by the experience of teachers from all over Ukraine, and that the standard is understandable and practical.
“If necessary, adjustments will be made to the document. After that, the developers of educational programs will have a year to adapt their programs to the new standard, so that every child – regardless of conditions or place of residence – has the same opportunity to get quality preschool education,” the minister emphasized.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports suggests that schools postpone the holidays and study according to a six-day schedule.
In MES emphasizedthat the duration of vacations during the year should be at least 30 calendar days, and schools can change the vacation schedule in case of epidemiological restrictions or danger in the region.
