Details: The new EU visa waiver rules will enter into force on the twentieth day after the signing ceremony, i.e. in mid-December.

After that, the EU will be able to get rid of visa-free regime to a country that will not comply with the EU visa policy. Also, visa-free cancellation will be possible in case of deterioration of EU relations with any country, for example, in case of human rights violations.

The regulation also simplifies the triggering of the suspension mechanism. The term of the initial suspension of the visa-free regime will be increased to 12 months (from the current 9 months). This initial term can be extended for another 24 months (instead of 18 months).

For today the EU visa-free regime was canceled only for one country – Vanuatu.

Currently, the European Union is considering the option suspension of the visa-free regime for Georgia to put pressure on the Georgian authorities, which chose an anti-democratic course.
