Despite the numerical advantage, the hosts could not translate it into goals. After the final whistle, De Ligt did not hide his disappointment. On MUTV, he stated that the team acted strategically incorrectly:
“It’s a bad evening for us. We play 11 on 10 for almost 70 minutes, concede a goal and don’t create many chances. There were a few, but not enough for a match against ten. We basically played to their strengths,” the defender said.
