In the Chernobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve, researchers have recorded an unusual bird – a long-tailed tit that looks like a small toy.
The employees of the reserve published her photo, drawing attention to the fact that this species rarely occurs here during nesting.
The bird usually stays away from open spaces, choosing dense bushes for life, where it feels protected.
Experts explain that the long-tailed tit most often makes nests among the tangled branches of bushes and trees. She builds a complex ball-shaped nest that skillfully disguises itself as the surrounding vegetation, repeating its shades and texture.
For camouflage, the bird uses moss, lichens and dry plant remains, and from the inside it lines the nest with feathers, creating a reliable and warm shelter for the future brood.
According to the observations of scientists, whole flocks of long-tailed titmice fly through the territory of the reserve in autumn. They move in compact groups through the crowns of trees and thickets, continuously echoing with melodious ringing voices.
In winter, these birds join mixed flocks of other small birds and travel together through forests in search of food, taking advantage of collective behavior.
We will remind you that unique Red Book birds were spotted in Chernobyl.
Dogs with blue fur were also found in Chernobyl.
