The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, spoke about the possible sale of the club. His words are quoted by Marca.

“The money belongs to the sosios and I want to return the ‘debt’ to them so that it cannot be taken away. We will call a referendum so that the members of the club can vote.

All this absurd talk about whether I am going to resign as president, whether I want to keep the club or hand it over to the foundation, or whether this reconstruction will cost money to the sosios… You see all this in the newspapers that “love us” so much and have “helped” us for a long time. Everyone on the board wants the same thing. We are one, and this unity with the sosios leads us to become an independent club. We understand the threats we face. For all 25 years in the position of president, I have done everything I set out to do.

We want to protect ourselves so that no one takes away our assets. This is the main reason. They are extremely valuable. Our ownership structure must be strengthened and preserved for the future. Our goal is to protect the club from external encroachments. The club has enemies who want to take over its assets. Until now, belonging to Real Madrid has felt special, and because of this sentimental value, there will always be people who want to use it to take over the club. Many sosos do not realize that they are the owners of the club. We all own Real Madrid and the reform will only strengthen that.

I will propose that the club’s 100,000 sosos be recognized as the true owners of the club and that this number be fixed in the future. A new sosyo can be added in the event of the death of one of the sosyos, priority is given to the children and descendants of existing sosyos. It is not about limiting rights. We must preserve what we have achieved.

We will remain a sosios club, but we have to create a subsidiary company over which Real Madrid’s 100,000 sosios will always have full control. We could sell a minority stake of 5% or so to investors to understand the value of the club. We do not want to sell all shares. If the investor wants to transfer his share, Real Madrid will have the right to take it back,” Peres said
