How to protect batteries from bursting without heat

During incidents in the heating system, in order to avoid damage to the pipes, it is necessary to release the system from the coolant.

Ukrainians express concern about the possible problems with heating, so some residents of multi-apartment buildings are thinking about what to do in case the radiators crack. In the event of accidents in the heating system, the coolant should be drained to prevent the destruction of the pipes. However, citizens do not have the authority to do this on their own. You need to contact the management organization that is responsible for the state of intra-house networks. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration in a conversation with UNIAN.

The KMDA emphasized that in the event of an accident in the house, when the water stopped moving in the heating system, and it is frosty outside, the water from the radiators must be drained. Otherwise, it may freeze, the pipes will crack, and the entire system will be damaged. However, residents do not have the right to independently release water from radiators. This is carried out only by specialized personnel after the decision of the authorized person and coordination with the energy supply organization.

“The decision on the need to drain water from the system is made by the person responsible for the serviceability and functioning of the heat-using installations and heat networks of the economic entity with the agreement of the energy supply organization. Residents are prohibited from draining water from the batteries on their own,” said Oleksandr Malikhin, Deputy Director-Head of the Department of Housing and Communal Policy.

At what temperature can burst heating pipes The period of time during which heating can remain without water release depends on climatic conditions, the level of insulation of the building, its architecture and ability to store heat. These aspects are specified in special instructions, according to which water is released, if necessary.

“Inhabitants of high-rise residential buildings in case of freezing of water in radiators are not allowed to defrost them on their own, as this can cause damage to pipes or radiators, so residents should contact the service organization. Pipes can crack when the water in them freezes, which usually happens when the temperature in the room drops to negative values,” Malikhin emphasized.

Who is responsible for the radiators in the apartment? The management company or organization that keeps the building on balance is responsible for the condition and maintenance of the heating system inside the house. This is determined by the order of the Ministry of Regional Development, which establishes the rules for the maintenance of internal networks of heat supply, water supply, sewage system and hot water.

Heating in Kyiv On October 29, the municipal authorities adopted a resolution on the beginning of the heating season in the housing stock, taking into account temperature indicators and the need to reduce pressure on the power grid. In advance, on October 3, institutions of the social sphere – medical centers, schools, kindergartens, social welfare institutions and others – were given the opportunity to join the heat. Heat is supplied to these institutions based on their separate applications.

According to data as of November 5, heat supply has already been restored in 95% of residential buildings under the management of the capital’s utility management companies. All scheduled events are ongoing. In fact, Kyiv’s heat supply system has been launched. Thus, a certain number of houses are already heated, others are connected according to the individual decisions of the residents, although they have the technical possibility.
