“The American knocked his opponent down and won the fight by decision of the judges”, — write: sport.ua
In the second most significant event, representatives of the welterweight (up to 66.7 kg) met – the WBO title holder, an American Brian Norman (28–0, 22 KOs) and his compatriot, former absolute world champion Devin Haney (32–0, 15 KOs).
Normann started the fight aggressively, kept the opponent at a long distance, attacked with single blows, moved well on his feet. Haney acted very passively, but successfully defended against the champion’s attacks. Participated in the second round – sent his compatriot to a knockdown.
Normann recovered from the fall, but was rushing into ill-advised attacks and was seriously lacking in speed. The opponent easily read the champion’s attacks and moved away from the line of fire in a timely manner.
Closer to the championship rounds, Bryan managed to even out the course of the match – he made a bet on power boxing, quenching Devin’s attacks in clinches. Haney understood that he was leading on the judge’s notes, so he did not take risks and acted extremely carefully and coolly.
According to the results of 12 rounds, the judges recorded the victory of Devin, who became the world champion in welterweight. Norman suffered the first defeat in his career.
Devin Haney (USA) – Brian Norman (USA) – UD 12 (117–110, 116–111, 114–113)
