Details: The negotiations will take place at the level of national security advisors. The EU is expected to be represented by Seibert and Pedro Lurti, the chief assistant to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
Among other things, Politico writes, it is expected that the Europeans will pressure Trump’s team to moderate its proposal to transfer the Donbas territories to Russia. Instead, they want any truce to be based on the principle of freezing the conflict on the current “contact line”, but only to start negotiations, not a final settlement.
What preceded: President Volodymyr Zelenskyi previously issued a decree approving a delegation of senior Ukrainian officials for negotiations regarding the Trump team’s “peace plan”; it will be headed by the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak.
According to CNN, US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll and his team flew to Geneva (Switzerland) on Saturday morning, where he will hold meetings with Ukrainian officials regarding the “peace plan”, and on Sunday they will be joined by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
The newspaper Bild wrote that the representatives of the leading European states will meet with the US representatives in Geneva on November 23, they do not agree with at least 4 points of the “peace plan” of Donald Trump’s team.
Leaders of European states and European institutions, as well as countries that are part of the “Group of Seven” (except the USA) expressed their disagreement with part of the “peace plan” for Ukraine proposed by the United States, but agreed to take the project as a basis and expressed readiness for its joint finalization.
