The Kateryniv quarry for the extraction of alkaline kaolin in Donetsk region, in the Mariupol region, stopped working – the occupiers completely exhausted the reserves of raw materials.
Petro Andryushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of the Occupation, reported this on Telegram.
“The quarry has been operating since 2003. During this time, about two million tons of kaolin were mined here. Mining was stopped in the fall of 2025, as further development of the deposit became impossible,” he wrote.
Andryushchenko noted that after the occupation of the region, raw materials from this quarry were transported to Russia through the Mariupol port.
“Stolen kaolin went to enterprises in the Voronezh region and Rostov (the city of Shakhty). Alkaline kaolin was used in the production of semi-acid refractories, earthenware and ceramics, paints, and in purified form – even in pharmaceuticals as an inert binding additive,” he noted.
