The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on the “Midas” case: This is a bad sign for friends of Ukraine

Reports of corruption in Ukraine are not a good sign for those states that provide financial support to Kyiv, as it may indicate possible embezzlement of their aid.

Wherewaist: He added that “the only good news here is that the agencies responsible for tracking corruption have started this investigation, they have not been afraid to investigate people in power whom they suspect of corruption.”

“Of course, it is not a good sign for those of us who support Ukraine in significant amounts to see that corruption is “snipping” money that goes to support Ukraine. So, this needs to be fought, and I expect President Zelensky to take a very tough position on this and act,” the minister emphasized

Nevertheless, Veel said that the corruption scandals will not yet affect further support for Ukraine.

“This (a reduction in the level of aid to Ukraine due to corruption – “EP”) should not happen. And that is why it is so important that President Zelenskyy now acts decisively and shows us that we can be sure that corruption will be put an end to,” concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

• The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has published an investigation into a major corruption scheme at the Energoatom NEC under the name “Midas”.
• The organizer of the scheme was businessman, co-owner of Kvartal-95 and former partner of President Zelensky, Timur Mindych. The prosecution noted that Mindich exerted influence on the former Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko and the former Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov.
• The European Commission believes that the disclosure of the corruption scheme is evidence of the effectiveness of the anti-corruption bodies of Ukraine.
