The Ukrainian was arrested in August in the Italian city of Rimini, a few days after the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office issued a European warrant for his arrest. Kuznetsov became the first person arrested in the case of undermining the Nord Streams. Several charges have been brought against him in Germany, including an article about a terrorist attack. He pleaded not guilty in court.
As a result of explosions in the fall of 2022, both gas pipelines were seriously damaged – three out of four threads were destroyed.
The gas pipeline was built to deliver Russian gas to Western Europe. The highway cannot be restored. Investigations by Sweden, Denmark and Germany showed that gas pipelines were blown up, but the culprits are still being identified.
Russia does not participate in the investigation. Moscow placed the responsibility for what happened on the USA and its allies. They deny their involvement.
Numerous Western mass media reported that the explosions were organized by people connected to the Ukrainian special services. Kyiv denies the accusation of organizing sabotage.
