But there have also been changes made around the Bernabeu.

That includes a new name for the station situated just outside the stadium.

The name of the Madrid metro station ‘Santiago Bernabeu’ – the title of the stadium – will be cut to ‘Bernabeu’, according to El Desmarque.

The new station will be ready by 2027, to coincide with Real’s 80th year anniversary at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Works have been ongoing since 2024 and are expected to cost £58million.

The station was originally opened in 1982 under the name ‘Lima’, which was later named ‘Santiago Bernabeu’ after the legendary Spanish footballer.

The move comes after the stadium itself was rebranded from Santiago Bernabeu to just ‘Bernabeu’.

There is a new corporate logo around the stadium which simply reads “Bernabeu” beneath an illustration of the stadium’s exterior.

The new emblem was first used last weekend at the NFL game between the Washington Commanders and the Miami Dolphins.

It has been reported that “Santiago” has been dropped from the logo in order to make it “shorter and more impactful”.

It’s claimed that the logo will accompany all non-football events that take place at the stadium.
