The Church of the Transfiguration in Cherkasy region, built in 1839 by architect Giorgio Torricelli, officially joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
On November 16, the rector of the parish, Father Vasyl, reported about the transfer, “Suspilne Cherkasy” writes.
“I came to the church for prayer, I see that people are standing on one side of the gate and on the other. I realized that something was wrong and called the police. Local people organized themselves and entered the territory. Then an inventory of the property was carried out, because after all, this building is state property, a historical monument. Now the door is open for all Ukrainians,” he emphasized.
The priest noted that he is currently on duty with the faithful on the territory of the temple, as the community is in the process of transition. Considerable preparatory work needs to be done in the shrine, after which the date of the first service will be announced. They plan to openly highlight all changes, and also contact the Ministry of Culture regarding further procedures.
According to Father Vasyl, the representatives of the UOC MP, led by the former abbot Oleg, have already left the territory of the temple.
The Chinese temple Yongqing, which is about 1500 years old, burned to the ground.
