The incident happened on September 15 in Naples. According to the investigation, a local criminal authority, together with his 16-year-old son, was looking for his daughter’s 17-year-old boyfriend, who leaked an intimate video. Finding him in the Smart Fortwo car, the son fired two shots, but missed the target.
The bullets hit Catanzaro, who was sitting in the same car. The football player was able to reach his relatives, after which he was taken to the hospital, where he spent two months in intensive care and died on Monday morning.
Catanzaro played for lower league clubs Rione Terra Calcio and Monterascello Calcio. He is remembered at the club as a “polite and respectful young man.”
According to the media, the football player had nothing to do with the conflict between the gangs. The police have already arrested five people in connection with the attack. The investigation continues.
