The National Security and Defense Council denies rumors that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov “has left the country and refuses to return.”

Literally: “Over the past few days, claims have been circulating online that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov, allegedly left the country and refuses to return to Ukraine.

Details: It is emphasized that the secretary of the NSDC is on a planned official business trip. The CPD reported that as of November 17, Umyerov works in the United States of America, where he “conducts a number of working consultations and meetings aimed at strengthening international support for Ukraine.”

Literally: “Rustem Umyerov remains in constant working contact with the state leadership, fulfills all assigned tasks and continues work on key issues of security, defense and humanitarian policy.

We ask citizens and the media not to spread unverified messages that mislead society and work in the interests of information operations against Ukraine.”

Prehistory:

  • On November 11, Umerov announced that he had arrived in Turkey to “unblock the issue of exchanges” for the return of Ukrainians from captivity in the Russian Federation.
  • At the same time, the source of “Ukrainian Pravda” reported that the Coordination Headquarters, which deals with exchange processes, learned about Umerov’s trip from the media.
  • On November 15, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council announced the “decision of the parties to activate the Istanbul Agreements”, which included the release of 1,200 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. What are these parties and whether they are new arrangements or activation of previous ones – was not specified.
