On November 5, the Darnytskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced Volodymyr Mushtuk, finding him guilty of acquiring, storing and selling counterfeit foreign currency. The attacker, together with his accomplices, used fake US dollars to buy expensive iPhone mobile phones through the OLX website, causing victims hundreds of thousands of hryvnias in damages.

Despite the seriousness of the crime, Mushtuk received a 5-year suspended prison sentence with a probationary period of 3 years, as he entered into an agreement with the investigation and compensated all the damages.
Mushtook and two of his accomplices (who are under separate investigation) purchased counterfeit $100 bills that were of high enough quality to pass without special inspection.
The scheme worked as follows: the group arranged to meet with sellers of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and similar models on OLX, paid with fake bills and took the gadgets. The crimes were committed in Kyiv between January 12 and 15, 2023.
The total amount of damages caused to the sellers exceeded 512 thousand hryvnias (calculated at the NBU exchange rate on the date of the crime). In particular, in a few days, attackers purchased more than 10 iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max.
The crime is classified under Part 2 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acquisition, storage for the purpose of sale and sale of counterfeit foreign currency, committed repeatedly and with a prior conspiracy by a group of persons).
The court approved the plea agreement dated October 22, 2025, taking into account the following mitigating circumstances:

Confession and remorse: Mushtuk pleaded guilty in full and actively cooperated with the investigation.

Damages: All victims were fully compensated.

Social status: The accused is a disabled person of the 3rd group, a volunteer, has a minor daughter and is positively characterized.
The court concluded that the agreement is in the public interest, contributes to the rapid investigation and prevention of similar crimes.
