President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday announced the conclusion of an agreement with Greece on the prompt supply of gas to compensate for its shortage against the backdrop of Russian shelling. Gas supply from Greece will start already in January 2026.

Zelensky said this at a press conference in Athens together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Zelensky called this agreement “an extremely important part of the big energy package” that Kyiv has prepared for this winter.

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis specified that gas deliveries will take place with the help of an “important energy artery” that connects the Greek city of Alexandroupolis with Odesa. “Thus, Ukraine gets access to reliable sources of energy, and Greece becomes a hub for the supply of American liquefied gas to Central and Eastern Europe,” Mitsotakis said.

In addition to operational supply, Ukraine and Greece have also concluded long-term agreements on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, arrived in Greece on an official visit on November 16. His plane landed at Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos Airport around 12:30 p.m. local time, kicking off a new European tour with Athens as the first stop.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is opening a new page of transatlantic cooperation in the field of energy security. During the Ministerial Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), Naftogaz of Ukraine signed a memorandum with the Greek company ATLANTIC-SEE LNG TRADE SA
