Vaccinations in the city continue, but free vaccination is available only for some vulnerable categories of the population.
This time of year flu vaccines run out faster, than expected. It is almost impossible to get vaccinated in Dnipro, Kyiv and other big cities – it should have been done 1-2 months ago, when vaccines were still available. The deputy mayor of Dnipro, Andriy Babskyi, gave an answer to the Informant regarding flu vaccination in the city this season.
The Dnipro City Hall emphasizes that vaccination against influenza is recommended, but not mandatory and not included in the National list of preventive vaccinations. This vaccine, unlike mandatory vaccines, is not provided by the state, but is purchased at the expense of local budgets, enterprises, or citizens’ own funds.
According to data as of 11/13/2025, influenza vaccination is carried out in the vaccination rooms in all primary health care centers (PHCs). purchased by patients at their own expense. That is, patients in pharmacies will need to find and buy leftover vaccine with their own money, come to the hospital and there inject themselves with this vaccine. As of November 13, 2025, 3,846 flu vaccinations have been administered since the beginning of the 2025/2026 epidemic season.
Deputy Mayor of Dnipro – Director of the Department of Public Health of the Dnipro City Council Andriy Babsky indicates that the measures of the Comprehensive Program “Population Health of Dnipro” for 2023-2027 provide for the allocation of funds from the city budget for the purpose of purchasing a vaccine for the prevention of influenza in groups of medical and epidemic risks in all CPMSD Nos. 1-12 subordinated to the Department, with further provision of free vaccination to persons of the specified categories.
According to data as of 11/13/2025, the flu vaccine was purchased from seven CPMSDs in the amount of 720 units. At the moment, 24 children from medical risk groups have been vaccinated. The purchase of the flu vaccine at the expense of the city budget did not take place in five CPMSDs due to the lack of vaccine from suppliers.
According to information from the Central Health Care Center, interest in influenza vaccination among patients of institutions has slightly increased compared to 2024 in five Central Health Care Centers. In other institutions, interest remained at the level of 2024.
The journalists of Informator Dnipro decided to find out where it is possible to find a vaccine against influenza in Dnipro and how much it will cost to make it in private medical centers. Read about the results here.
We remind you that the well-known infectious disease doctor from Dnipro, Viktor Mavrutenkov, recommended buying the flu vaccine as soon as it goes on sale. The supply of influenza vaccines to the Ukrainian market in the 2025/26 epidemic season has almost halved compared to previous years, Fedir Lapiy, head of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis, said – approximately 250,000 doses were delivered.
At the same time, 500,000 doses is the greatest demand. The majority of the population of Ukraine is not interested in vaccination against influenza. However, according to one chain of private clinics, 90% of their outpatient flu patients have not been vaccinated against the flu.
This year, Ukrainians are offered two vaccines for influenza vaccination – “Vaksigrip Tetra” by the French manufacturer Sanofi and “Gsy Flu Quadrivalent” by the South Korean manufacturer Biopharma Corp. According to the Ministry of Health, Ukraine received 100,667 doses of the Vaxigrip Tetra vaccine and 136,000 doses of the Gisy Flu vaccine. However, these vaccines are now hard to find on sale, and people are looking for them on leftovers in pharmacies or medical institutions. Sanofi delivered less flu vaccine this year compared to previous seasons – previously this amount was 200-300 thousand doses.
According to the Ministry of Health, children are the most affected by influenza and COVID-19. At the first signs – cough, runny nose, sore throat or high temperature – you should consult a doctor, and not resort to self-medication.
The epidemic season began on September 29 and will continue until May 2026. Since the beginning of the season, more than 619,000 Ukrainians have already fallen ill with SARS, influenza or COVID-19. This is 6.9% more than in the same period last year. Quarantine measures are not yet planned in Ukraine.
