“The Brit shared his expectations for the Las Vegas Grand Prix”, — write: sport.ua
The Briton has been in strong form of late and currently leads the personal standings by 24 points with three stages remaining in the season.
Next on the calendar is Las Vegas, a circuit where McLaren struggled last year. After winning the Brazilian Grand Prix last weekend, Norris indicated that he did not expect the track conditions to be favorable for the team this time around.
The comment came amid a successful campaign for McLaren, and journalists asked the pilot if he should change his mind and hope for a more positive result in Las Vegas.
Norris dismissed these suggestions, stating:
“No, I can say what I want and think what I want. I always try to be as honest as possible.
If I don’t think we’ll be fast, then we are. And I’m not saying that I will take 10th place – I just think that it will be difficult to win. We were very far from the best result – just look at last year’s data. There were a lot of races where we weren’t fast enough this season.
It’s not like we won every race and I’m expected to say otherwise. I’m just giving my opinion on whether it’s going to be easy.”
Norris crashed in the first Las Vegas Grand Prix of 2023 and finished sixth last year, 43 seconds behind winner George Russell.
A string of setbacks at the track leaves the championship leader in a cautious mood ahead of the weekend ahead.
“We’ve never been strong in Las Vegas. So why should I think, “Yeah, everything’s going to be okay?” I am speaking honestly as I see the situation. Maybe I’ll win – then we’ll see. You have the right to have your own opinion about what I should say and what I should not say, but I will do as I see fit.”
