Shevchenko told the Dynamo player that he would not be able to play in midfield

Defender of Kyiv “Dynamo” and the national team of Ukraine Oleksandr Karavaev admitted that the former coach of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Shevchenko, transferred him to the position of right defender.

“Once I came to the national team when it was coached by Andriy Mykolayovych Shevchenko. He told me that it would be almost impossible to play in the midfield (due to the competition – ed.). I said, “Yes, I understand.” There, Yarmolenko was in his prime, Tsygankov on the approach and Marlos.

I understood that I would not be able to compete, because these are legends of our football. And Shevchenko said that he could send me to the position of right defender.

I say: “No questions, I will play there, this position suits me.” I knew how to use some free space on the field to realize myself,” Karavaev recalled.

In the current season, the 33-year-old football player played 17 matches in all competitions, in which he scored four goals and provided four assists.
