Member of the Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union Jürgen Hardt said that Germany should pledge about 1 billion euros every month for the military support of Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
Hardt emphasized that these funds should meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and strengthen its ability to resist Russian aggression. Ukraine covers part of the costs with its own taxes, but a significant amount is financed by international partners, among which Germany plays one of the key roles.
“About one billion a month – this is the kind of support Ukraine can count on from Germany,” the deputy noted.
He added that the federal government is working to increase resources, including through loans secured by frozen Russian assets, as well as through increased financial participation from the EU and other allies. Hardt expressed his expectation that the US and other partners will also increase their aid.
The politician emphasized that a strong Ukraine is the only way to force Putin to face the risk of defeat, and thus to create the prerequisites for real peace negotiations without dictation from Russia.
“Russia must lose this war. But if she completes it only because of the fear of defeat, that is also an acceptable result,” he concluded.
Germany is actively supplying Ukraine with HX-2 combat drones developed by the Helsing company. These drones, whose characteristics resemble the Russian Lancet, will soon enter serial production.
