The incident in question is the 22-year-old’s alleged spitting towards Leeds United fans. The incident occurred during a Premier League match at Turf Moor on October 18, in which Burnley won 2-0.
Mezhbry came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute, but the incident reportedly took place 16 minutes earlier, around the 67th minute, while the player was in the warm-up.
Lancashire Police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a Leeds fan who was in the away section.
The FA’s official statement read: “It is alleged that the player acted in breach of the rules of the game and inappropriately engaged in offensive obscene behavior by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United fans.”
The Tunisia international has until Friday, November 28 to respond to the charges.
Hannibal Maghbri joined Burnley in August 2024 from Manchester United.
