The information is posted on the War&Sanctions portal and confirms that the Russian military removed the exhibits under the guidance of Russian museum curators. Among the stolen items are paintings, graphics, sculptures and icon paintings.
“During the temporary occupation of the city, the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation under the leadership of Russian museum workers systematically removed exhibits from the art museum, including paintings, graphics, sculpture and icon painting,” – said the message of the State Government.
It is noted that some of the 1,233 stolen paintings were illegally transported to the temporarily occupied territories. Among the works are the works of Ukrainian and European artists of the XIX-XX centuries, such as Peter Lely, Maria Prymachenko and Ivan Aivazovsky.
The GUR declares that the theft of Ukrainian cultural heritage is an attempt by Russia to undermine the national identity of Ukraine, which makes the fixation of these crimes an important step on the way to restoring justice.
It will be recalled that earlier the facts of the theft of more than 170 artifacts during illegal archaeological excavations in Crimea and other objects were recorded. This information indicates the systematic theft of the cultural heritage of Ukraine, which is ongoing in the occupied territories, and emphasizes the need for an international response to these actions.
