Details: On Monday, November 10, Orbán said that the US and Hungary “completed the most important negotiations of the year.”
“We agreed with President Trump on the indefinite exemption of Hungary from American oil sanctions. As long as he is the president and I am the prime minister, there will be no sanctions,” he said.
Orbán said that “the stakes could not be higher” for Hungary.
“The entry into force of US sanctions against Russian energy sources would cause a two- to three-fold increase in utility costs and a “thousand-forty-four-fold” increase in gasoline prices in Hungary by Christmas. A real disaster,” he said.
The Prime Minister of Hungary emphasized that the country “managed to prevent this danger”.
“So Hungarian families will be able to spend Christmas the way they wanted,” he added.
Hungary said on Saturday, November 8, that it had received an indefinite exemption from US sanctions on its use of Russian oil and gas, but the White House insists that exemption is valid only for one year.
Orbán also stated that Hungary agreed with Washington on “financial shield” to protect its economy and state finances.
