In conditions of frequent power outages, it is necessary to observe the proper storage conditions of medicines, as their violation can reduce the effectiveness of drugs or make them dangerous.

Specialists of the Public Health Center (CPH) provided recommendations for storing medicines at home.

First of all, it is necessary to carry out a complete revision of the first-aid kit, check the expiration dates and check the storage conditions with the instructions:

  • “Room temperature” (or if the regimen is not specified) – store the medicine within +15°C to +25°C.
  • “Dry cool place” – requires a temperature of +8°C to +15°C and humidity not higher than 60%.
  • Mandatory cold – drugs that require a regimen from +2°C to +8°Cmust be stored in the general compartment of the refrigerator.

Storage of heat-sensitive medicines (eg insulin)

For medicines that are critically sensitive to heat (mode from +2°C to +8°C), the Center for Disease Control advises to prepare backup equipment in advance:

  • Use cooler bags or thermal containers with cold accumulators. They can maintain the desired temperature up to 10 hours.
  • Avoid direct contact medicines with frozen plates, because medicines should not freeze.
  • Do not freeze medicines, because extreme cold can destroy or inactivate the active substance.
  • Follow the outage schedulesin order to refreeze the cold accumulators in time.

On Saturday, November 8, hourly power outages of up to two shifts will be applied in all regions of Ukraine.

It will be recalled that “Ukrenergo” gave a forecast for a shutdown in the winter.
