Several factions of the lower house of the Czech parliament, the Chamber of Deputies, reacted to Speaker Tomio Okamura’s decision to remove the Ukrainian flag from the building and hung three more.

Details: If before Okamura’s decision there was one flag of Ukraine on the building of the Chamber of Deputies, now there are three of them – from conservative deputies from ODS, liberals from STAN and the Pirate Party.

“In the ODS, we decided to immediately correct the first step of the new chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura. The Ukrainian flag has returned to the Chamber and hangs on the windows of our parliamentary faction,” said the ODS.

“On his first day in office, Mr. Okamura showed that the only thing he is capable of is to despise such values ​​as solidarity and the courage to support a country attacked by Russia,” STAN commented.

“Nothing is changing for us – we are returning the flag, which Tomio Okamura shamefully removed today, to the building of the Chamber of Deputies. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the heroes,” the Pirate Party wrote.

The Ukrainian flag was removed on Thursday by the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tomio Okamura, who was elected as the Speaker of the Lower House on Wednesday.

Okamura, the leader of the right-wing populist SPD party, has long criticized the display of Ukrainian flags on public buildings as a symbol of solidarity with the country, which has undergone a full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation.
