A MUM who named her son after a Game of Thrones character has revealed the reasons she regrets doing so.

Jackie explained that while she’d never choose one of the more “recognisable” monikers from the fantasy series for her kids, she couldn’t resist the one they’d settled on for their little boy Jorah.

“The reason I regret it is because the name is so unique that it has basically made my son feel like his name’s weird when his name is actually beautiful,” she said.

“In Hebrew, it actually means like early monsoon rains, which I love… I think the name has a beautiful origin to it.”

It was when she was putting her son to bed that she first realised his true feelings about the name, as he said: “Mum, I’m never going to meet anyone with my name”.

“And I said, ‘I actually don’t think you might ever meet anyone with your name, but that’s really cool, right?’ ” Jackie continued.

“It’s super unique and my son’s super social but he was like, ‘no, I want kids with my name’.

“I think he sees his friends who all have the same name and he just feels left out.”

The situation is all the more unfortunate as Jackie herself had a similar name struggle when she was growing up – namely that people couldn’t pronounce her full name, Jacqueline.

So she learned to go by Jackie instead.

And despite the fact that Jorah Mormont had a positive story arc on Game of Thrones, she concluded: “I do in the end regret naming my kid after a Game of Thrones character, even though I really love the name, but it’s just a little too unique.”

“Picking a name for our son was hard and I know it’ll be fine in the end but right now he’s just feeling like he wants to have the same name as his friends,” Jackie captioned her video.

And people in the comments section quickly weighed in, with one writing: “It’s Jorah. Great name. He will love it when he grows up!”

“If it’s Jorah, that’s absolutely the most beautiful name for a boy!” another added.

“I’d absolutely name my kid that if I would live in a country that’s somewhat a normal name.”

While others revealed their own Game of Thrones-inspired names.

“I named mine Daenerys lol she goes by Daney and thats how shes gotten to enjoy her name,” one wrote.

The struggle of choosing a baby name

CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name…

At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.

The dilemmas are endless…

My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could – partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we’d only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.

How wrong we were…

I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I’d already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby names…something which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear.

With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can’t help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it’s something that none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total me problem!

The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?

It’s a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed…and I don’t want to be THAT person.

While some will argue there’s thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite…after all, there’s no guarantee that person will even have another baby.

Then there’s also the issue of finding a name you adore…only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can’t shake off.

I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!) …only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead.

So, back to the drawing board we went..

Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as ‘baby gal’ for a little while longer!

“I named my daughter Khaleesi and she was born before the last season, but I still love her name,” another added.

“Named our daughter Baelor. No regrets,” a third commented.

And some people commenting revealed the happy circumstances that their own unusual names had led to.

“My husband and I have bizarre names,” one wrote.

“That’s how we met as kids. So a weird name brought us together!”

“My name is Delta, I hated it and grew to love it,” another added.

“I’m 26 and I just finally met someone else with the same name as me, she was 4, he will be fine!”

“We met because we both have a common interest of loving The Walking Dead,” a third revealed.

“We ended up naming our son after the show.

“It’s a little bit more common of a name though, his is Lincoln (Andrew Lincoln) Walker (what they call the zombies).”
