The energy saving program in the country will start in 2026.

Those households that do not have solar panels will also receive energy, Reuters reports.

The program, called Solar Sharer, will start in the states of New South Wales and South Australia, as well as in part of Queensland. This is the most densely populated southeast of the country. Consumers will receive free solar electricity when the power of its production will be the highest – in the middle of the day.

Surplus electricity during peak hours of production would in theory allow offloading its consumption during the rest of the day and generally reduce the cost of electricity for all Australians.

About four million households in Australia have solar panels on their roofs, and during peak hours on sunny afternoons they can supply so much energy that electricity prices go into the red.

At the same time, peak consumption often occurs several hours later, which creates a load on the power grid. So, with the help of Solar Sharer, the government wants to encourage citizens to shift most of their consumption to the time of active energy production – turning on powerful appliances, charging vehicles, etc.

Shares in Australia’s two largest electricity suppliers, AGL and Origin Energy, fell 3% by the end of the day following the government’s announcement.

Renewable energy in the world – the main newsAt the beginning of autumn, projects of solar batteries, more powerful than large nuclear power plants, were presented in Japan. The country has a high population density and mountainous terrain, so the space for deployment of solar farms is quite limited in it – therefore, each local panel has to produce much more than the standard ones.

And China started building a grandiose project a month ago right in the middle of the desert. The longest line of solar panels in the world with a length of 400 kilometers will be placed here.
