The harvest for most crops in Ukraine has already been completed.
The forecast for grain production this year is about 59 million tons / photo REUTERSThis year, Ukraine will harvest a larger grain crop than in the past. At the same time, by crops, the largest volumes will be corn.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi announced this in the studio of the Center for Economic Strategy.
Thus, the forecast for grain production this year is about 59 million tons, while last year 56 million tons were harvested, he noted.
For the two early groups, the harvest has already been completed. These are wheat and barley, which have indicators similar to last year – 22-22.5 million tons for wheat and 5.3 million tons for barley. This is more than enough for domestic consumption, the deputy minister assures. The collection of corn will be the largest – about 30 million tons.
“Corn harvest is actively underway, we haven’t crossed the equator yet. This year it was late spring, so the harvest started late. Plus, September and October are quite rainy. The main corn harvest is ahead,” the government official shares.
Vysotskyi says that corn will be the main grain crop in terms of volumes, and at the same time will show significant growth compared to last year’s 27 million tons (+3 million tons).
“At the same time, meetings will continue in November-December, the weather may be unpredictable,” the speaker warns.
For oil crops, the situation is reversed – they will definitely be harvested less than a year ago. Most of the sunflowers and soybeans have already been harvested, and the rapeseed harvest has already ended.
The rapeseed harvest of 3.3 million tons is slightly less than last year (3.7 million tons). Sunflower maintains its position at last year’s level of 11.5 – 12 million tons. But soybeans are significantly less – 5-5.5 million tons compared to 7.2 million tons last year.
“Soybean acreage has decreased – corn has increased. There will still be a late harvest,” Vysotskyi explains.
Harvest in Ukraine – the latest newsLast week, the NBU improved its forecast for this year’s harvest. Moreover, according to the regulator, it was the successful results of the harvest that contributed to the improvement of the general inflationary situation in the country. In 2026-2027, the growth of agricultural production thanks to corn is also predicted.
At the same time, despite better indicators of corn yield compared to last year, Ukrainian farmers began to lose the main market for this grain crop. We are talking about the EU, where the share of Ukrainian imports decreased by three times due to the delay of the harvest in Ukraine.
