The EU has launched a new Entry and Exit System (EES): what will change for Ukrainians

A new Entry/Exit System (EES) has started working in the European Union. Its purpose is to record data on passport documents of citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians, as well as information on entry and exit from the Schengen area.

This was announced by the spokesman of the State Security Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko on the air of the telethon.

EES provides for the collection of biometric data:

  • fingerprints (for children under 12 years old – not applicable);

  • face image

“This database does not provide any additional documents for crossing the border. But, of course, when a person is offered to scan fingerprints or take an image of a face and someone refuses, this can also be grounds for refusing entry to a particular country,” Demchenko explained.

Full implementation of the system will not affect traffic through Ukrainian checkpoints.

“As of now, we do not observe any complications regarding the movement of citizens and transport through our checkpoints on the border with the countries of the European Union,” Demchenko added.

The process of introducing the EES will be gradual, for which the European Union took half a year.

The Entry/Exit System (EES) Digital Entry/Exit System (EES) has already officially started operating at the “Grebenne – Rava-Ruska” checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

In connection with introduction of digital The entry/exit system to the Schengen zone (Entry/Exit System, EES) may slow down the passage of citizens through the “Yagodin – Dorogusk” and “Ustylug – Zosyn” ports.
