Ukraine has intensified the replacement of popular DJI Mavic quadcopters with its own models — the first thousand Ukrainian drones have already been delivered to the front line.
This is reported by Forbes.
Mavic has dominated the market for many years thanks to its compactness, camera and AI functions, but now Ukrainian manufacturers offer alternatives adapted to combat conditions.
Among the examples is the company Ukropter with the Yautja model, which was jokingly nicknamed “Shmavik” in the media: the drones are larger, have a longer range and are more resistant to obstacles.
Due to the ban on DJI sales to Ukraine and security risks (drone data may be transferred to the manufacturer), the demand for local solutions has increased sharply. Some Ukrainian manufacturers still use Chinese components, but localization is increasing: Motor-G produces more than 100,000 engines per month, the country is also setting up the production of batteries, flight controllers and thermal imaging cameras.
According to Forbes, Ukrainian drones are already actively used for reconnaissance, adjusting fire and even equipping with ammunition. At the same time, Ukraine is building up other production capacities: mass production of Flamingo missiles and the release of 600-800 drone interceptors is expected by the end of November.
