“On October 31, five people were killed and three more were injured as a result of vehicles hitting explosive devices in the forest areas in the north of the region. It has been preliminarily established that in both cases, local residents entered the mined areas, arbitrarily changing the designated routes,” the message published on Facebook reads.
According to the police, in the first case, the police established that local residents in a UAZ car were driving along the state border to carry out planned deforestation – they changed the route and drove past the warning signs, the car ran into an explosive device.
“As a result, five men, residents of the local community, aged from 19 to 65, died. Two more men, aged 25 and 40, received bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity and were taken to the hospital,” the message states.
On the same day, according to Zhytomyr law enforcement officers, there was a report of another explosion in a forest massif – according to preliminary data, a 55-year-old and a 32-year-old resident of Korosten Oblast, while transporting forest products in a ZIL vehicle, ran into a mine. As a result of the explosion, the youngest man was injured and hospitalized.
