In particular, 45% of respondents are “categorically” against it. Only 28% of Americans support the construction, and 15% are “categorically” in favor of it. Another 16% of respondents are not sure of their opinion. Support for building a White House ballroom is divided along party lines, with 62% of Republicans supporting the decision and 88% of Democrats opposed. At the same time, 61% of independent voters oppose the demolition of the east wing and the construction of the ballroom, and almost half of them in the survey expressed “categorically against” it. It will be recalled that on October 20, Donald Trump announced the start of work in the east wing of the White House to implement his idea with the construction of a large ballroom there for ceremonial receptions. Later it turned out that the eastern wing was completely demolished. The White House says that the hall will have 650 seats. This is three times more than the capacity of the currently largest East Room of the White House. Although the idea was announced a few months ago, it caused quite a public outcry.
